Freebie Friday 2 – Freeware Antivirus

Freebie Friday is here again and I have an awesome one for you. This week’s freebie concerns your online security, and is actually a source of a whole bunch of awesome freebies. The website is called Freeware Antivirus.

Freeware is simply software that you can download and use for free. Freeware Antivirus is a website with a ton of free software downloads all related to cyber security and protecting your computer, and your privacy. Let’s take a quick tour.

On the homepage you will find a navigation menu at the top of the page, a file search bar, and a list of the latest security downloads. The navigation menu at the top of the page has links to different pages within the website, with each page having freeware downloads for a specific type of security feature. The type of freewares that you’ll find on Freeware Antivirus each have their own pages and are as follows:

  • Antivirus
  • Antispyware
  • Firewall
  • Antispam
  • Privacy
  • Security Guides and Tips

The Antivirus section has 3 pages of antivirus freeware that you can download. This type of freeware is meant to protect your device from being infected with viruses, and to rid your device of existing viruses.

Spyware is software that enables a user to obtain covert information about another’s computer activities by transferring data covertly from their hard drive.  Often, spyware is downloaded onto a person’s device without their knowledge, and it can take a long time for a person to discover the spyware; in some cases, a person can have spyware on their device, and never discover that it is their.

Spyware can end up on your device from any number of online activities including agreeing to downloads of any kind, opening emails, opening attachments, clicking on questionable URL’s, or even simply visiting a website.

When you have spyware on your device, the operator of the spyware can monitor literally everything that you do on your device; obtain sensitive information from you such as usernames, passwords, credit card information, and banking information; and in some cases, they can even control things on your device, for example, they could have the ability to take snapshots of you through your own webcam without you knowing!

The AntiSpyware section of Freeware Antivirus has two pages of AntiSpyware downloads designed to protect your device from spyware, and to rid your device of spyware that may already be there.

A firewall is part of a computer system or network designed to block unauthorized access while permitting outward communication. The firewall section has several firewall software downloads for you to choose from.

The antispam page has several antispam freeware that can be downloaded, all meant to filter spam from your inbox, and block intrusive pop ups as you’re surfing the web.

The privacy page has freeware for encrypting your emails and personal files, and for erasing any records of all of your online activities.

Security Guide and Tips

This section gives you guides and tips related to adware and malware removal, file encryption, internet security, virus removal, and other topics related to security.

In addition to all of the pages that I just mentioned, Freeware Antivirus also has a links page (link is found at the bottom of the home page) with a long list of links to other freebie and freeware websites.
