13 Websites That Will Pay You For Reviews

Do people ask you for your opinion a lot? Are you an opinionated person as it is? Do you make it a point to make your opinions known? How would you like to be paid for your opinions?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, you should definitely consider writing for some of the websites that I’m going to talk about in this post. Probably the biggest influences on people’s purchase decisions, especially online, are testimonials and reviews, so much so, that many websites exist solely to collect product and service reviews. These websites are trusted sources of real opinions by real people who have already tried the product or service that they are reviewing. What many people don’t realize is that some of these review sites actually pay people to write honest reviews about certain types of products or services.

Paid Review Websites

Now, before you attempt to start doing paid reviews, there are a few things that you should keep in mind. There is a bit of a difference between a review and a simple opinion. A review goes beyond just giving people your opinion, in fact it is more informational than opinionated. A good reviewer will state facts and keep their own opinions to a minimum. A review educates people about a product or service, lists its pros and cons, and only gives relevant opinions that would represent the majority of prospective customers or clients. If you think that you can do professional reviews as described above, then you should know that you can be paid decent money for doing so. If this interests you, check out the following websites.

1. Animation Arena

Animation Arena seeks writers to provide video game, comic book, and movie reviews. You do not need to be a professional reviewer, but you do need to be passionate about the subject matter, and be able to write with correct grammar. To be able to write reviews for Animation Arena, you first need to apply by sending an email to arenamaster@animationarena.com that answers the following questions:

  • Your full name
  • Age
  • What subject/ subjects would you like to review?
  • What do you think makes a review a good review?
  • What are your favorite TV shows?
  • Which games are you playing right now, and which games are you looking forward to playing?
  • What comics are you reading right now?
  • What are your top 5 movies so far for this year?

If Animation Arena gives you the thumbs up to write reviews for them, you will be able to write up to 10 reviews per month. Animation Arena pays $15 per review that they publish.

2. Bloomsbury Review

This website wants well written book reviews for their audience of book readers. With each review, they want a strong introduction and conclusion, with a smoothe transition between paragraphs. They want book reviews that tell their readers what the book is about, why the reader may or may not be interested in it, whether or not the author is successful in his/ her intent, and why the book should be read. NEVER review a book you are not familiar with.

You do not need to be an expert on a subject, but a good working knowledge of the author and the subject matter is crucial.

Never review the work of a personal or ideological friend or enemy, and never review a book you haven’t read at least once and understand.

The Bloomsbury Review wants reviews of the author’s ideas, not of the ideas of the reviewer. They do not want reviews to compete with the subject, but rather respond or react to it. They want reviews that are more than just summaries of a book’s contents, they want involved and informed responses to the styles, themes, and contents of books.

All reviews are to be formatted as follows:

  1. Title of the book
  2. Subtitle (if any)
  3. Author/ Editor/ Translator/ Photographer names in ALL CAPS
  4. Publisher/ price/ binding/ 13-digit ISBN number
  5. The year the book was published
  6. The number of pages in the book

The Bloomsbury Review pays $10 to $15 for each review that they publish.

Closing Thoughts

If writing paid reviews is something your interested in, try to remember what makes a good review. A great review will be as non bias as possible, while remaining fairly blunt as to the product’s true pros and cons. Only review products that you have tried and that you understand. Never review products that you have a personal, or emotional attachment to, your review will inevitably be biased. Remember, a great reviewer will put their personal feelings about a product to the side, and represent the feelings of the majority.
